Many people ask me if I have used (or have found) any good natural supplements for high blood pressure reduction. The simple answer is yes and no. Our bodies are amazingly adaptive and even prescription medication may lose it’s effectiveness over time. By the same token, no two people are the same and a natural remedy that works for me might not work for you.
In addition to using my Pressure Perfect I have found that the amino acid L-arginine works well for me. Here’s a short description of L-arginine as listed on the about.com website:
Necessary for the production of protein, L-arginine also helps rid the body of ammonia (a waste product) and stimulates the release of insulin. In addition, L-arginine is used to make nitric oxide (a compound that relaxes the blood vessels). Although some studies suggest that L-arginine may benefit certain health conditions, other research shows that L-arginine may have harmful effects on some individuals.
I’ve looked at the studies and it seems that individuals that had severe cardiac impairment should stay away from L-arginine. As with any supplement, you should exercise care and monitor your progress for any side effects.
L-arginine breaks down in the body very quickly so if you do decide to give it a try you should find a “Time-release” formula.
Here’s a short list of some additional natural supplements for blood pressure reduction that my web visitors have shared:
Garlic
Fish Oil
Grape Seed Extract
Cocoa
Celery Seed Extract
Tomato Extract
When I find that the L-arginine is losing a bit of its effectiveness, I’ll use one of the other suggestions for a week or so before I start using it again.
At least when we try to treat high blood pressure with natural supplements we have a true marker of success – our own blood pressure reading. Obviously if your blood pressure goes down a bit, the supplement is having some positive effect. With vitamins and other nutritional supplements we may never truly know if they are working other than our own intuition.
If you have a favorite natural treatment that I haven’t listed here please feel free to contact me and I’ll add it to the list!
